ENCA, along with other human rights and environmental organisations have written to UK Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox MP to express our dismay about the UK’s sanctioning of sales of telecommunications interception equipment to Honduras, given the country’s human rights situation. We were alarmed to learn that the UK decided to ship this equipment despite the question of human rights compliance being raised multiple times in parliament.
In our letter we, along with a group of other organisations, urge Dr Fox MP to ensure that no further export licenses are granted to the Honduran Government for any equipment that could be used for internal repression.
We would encourage you to also send a letter to Liam Fox MP and your local representative to express your own concerns relating to this matter. A copy of our own letter can be found below and be used as a template.
